It was a long drive for Devon Williams‍ to make it up to South Bend from Dublin, Ohio on Saturday, but the 2021 linebacker is glad he made the trip.

“It was crazy,” the 6-foot-1, 210-pounder said. “It was nice. It was like a four-hour drive, but after that, the whole drive paid off. It was fun.

“We got there and got our badges, wristbands. They fed us food, gave us a couple Gatorades and we got to walk down a tunnel and be on the field while they warmed up. They went inside to get ready and we went up to our seats. It was crazy.”

Williams especially enjoyed taking in the game inside Notre Dame Stadium.

“That’s the one thing I can tell everybody about, the atmosphere was just crazy,” the Dublin Coffman High School standout said. “I’ve never seen nothing like it. I’ve been to an Ohio State game and Ohio State wasn’t like that.

“It was a big game. They just started scoring, it was 14-0 and I was like, ‘Oh, this is good.’”

The talented sophomore was also impressed with the campus.

“The campus looked real nice,” he said. “They had Touchdown Jesus, I really liked that. The stadium was real nice, they have the tunnel with the green lights. It was real nice.”

Williams was joined by his teammate and friend, 2021 defensive back AJ Kirk‍.

“He liked it too,” Williams said. “He said the same thing; the atmosphere is just crazy.”

Williams received an offer from Boston College back in May.

“I never thought I’d get an offer that early,” he acknowledged.

He’s also hearing from schools like Cincinnati, Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Bowling Green, Vanderbilt and Ohio State. Williams said he isn’t really sure what college scouts like most about him.

“I guess just a big body playing linebacker,” he said. “I’m pretty tall, I’m big for my age.”

Because of his pass-rushing prowess, he thinks most schools will recruit him as an outside linebacker.

Williams has an idea of a couple factors that will be most important when it comes time to choose a school.

“Definitely whoever I feel like believes in me the most. Obviously, Boston College will be in the picture because they were the first ones to give me the offer, but it’s whoever I feel believes in me the most and whoever’s energy I like.”
