Javion Gathrite‍ had the chance to visit Notre Dame for the first time this past weekend and the 2020 Missouri defensive back left impressed.

“It was great,” the 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior said. “I loved the environment and stuff. It was a good atmosphere. Everybody was really nice. I liked it a lot.

“When I got there, we went to the Gug. Then, they took us on a tour of the recovery room, the training room and stuff. I liked that a lot. We saw the players’ lounge and then we went to the locker room. The locker room was very nice. I liked everything about it.”

Gathrite visited along with his Park Hill High School classmate Johnny Wilson‍.

“We didn’t really look around the campus much,” Gathrite said. “We just looked at the football stuff.”

The Kansas City native enjoyed watching the Irish’s 42-13 victory over Florida State.

“It was great,” he said. “It was a good game plan. They just destroyed Florida State.  I loved the fans. They were all excited and welcoming.”

He would like to return in the future, “Just more around the campus itself, I want to see more of it.”

Gathrite thinks he could play safety or corner in college.

“This year I have to play safety because they wanted me to make more plays at safety, so I switched from corner to safety,” he said. “But I could see myself playing both in college.”

He currently offers from Iowa State, Northern Illinois and Northwestern and has been receiving interest from schools like Michigan State and Minnesota in addition to Notre Dame. He plans on visiting Michigan State in a couple weeks.
