It all starts with Brent Venables, though. Talent has come and gone at Clemson, but he keeps coordinating great defenses year after year. Since he took over the DC job there seven years ago, his defenses have ranked 34th, 12th, 1st, 6th, 6th, and 2nd.

As long as Venables is there, they are going to be great on defense.
