Recruitment Rundown
Olmstead always seemed like the kind of kid who would end up as a Big Ten/Midwest signee, even he felt that way from the beginning. So, while offers from schools like Florida, Florida State, LSU, UCLA and Oregon caught his attention, his focus rarely strayed from the group of schools he identified early. He called Notre Dame “a dream school” as a sophomore, so it was no surprise the Irish made each of his cuts moving through the process. His other finalists included Michigan, Minnesota, Rutgers and Ole Miss.

Head Coach Rich Hilliard
“It’s his motor. He’s never happy. He always wants to get to that next level. His work ethic is incredible. That’s what makes him a special athlete. You can’t teach that. He never takes a play off.”

ISD expert Jamie Uyeyama
I can definitely see Olmstead taking some time to get acclimated at the next level, but I see him as being able to adjust to what he needs to do technically with his game. I love his lunch pail mentality. I watch him play and think, “That looks like a guard”. And the kind of guard that most running backs would want to have blocking in front of them on 3rd and short.

A good college football comparable for his ceiling would be former Duke guard Laken Tomlinson. He was also not a great athlete, but played the same kind of game and became an all-conference player later in his career. I think Olmstead has the potential to become a solid to great starter at the next level if he can improve the current deficiencies with his play.

Favorite quote to ISD
“I could see myself doing that in 10 years or whatever. (Quenton Nelson) is from right down the street in New Jersey, RBC (Red Bank Catholic). I’ll be playing the same position he played at Notre Dame, I’m playing offensive guard there. It’s really great having him to look up to.”
