Recruitment Rundown
Spears always held Notre Dame in high regard and those feelings were only affirmed during a game visit last fall and then a Junior Day trip this past January. By then, it seemed like only a matter of time before Spears pulled the trigger. That time came on Feb. 20th. Spears pointed to the football program, coaching staff and education for why he chose the Irish over schools like Michigan State, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Cal and Virginia. Spears missed the majority of his junior and senior seasons with knee injuries.
Head Coach Mark Behrens
“One, he’s a high-character kid. He’s going to do what you ask him to do. He’s a steel football player in a big man’s body. He’s going to fit Notre Dame. He’s a heckuva football player.”
ISD expert Jamie Uyeyama
I really hope he is able to get healthy and stay that way because he has the potential to be starter for the Irish. He’s definitely not going to be an end. I see him competing at both defensive tackle positions. With the injury I would say it’s a safe bet that he will redshirt, but I can see a healthy Spears in the rotation on the interior after that.

“I have been committed for a couple weeks now, so just to get it out there is just a really good feeling, just to say I am committed to Notre Dame.”
