Kelvin Gilliam’s recruitment has kicked into full gear over the fall and winter and the 2021 Virginia defensive end currently has offers from schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech among others.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound sophomore is also hearing from several other top programs, including Notre Dame.

“They invited me to one of their camps in the summer,” Gilliam says of the Irish.

It’s a trip the Highland Springs High School standout says he will try to make.

“I know that they’re one of the best football teams in the country,” he adds. “I paid attention to their game against Wake Forest this past year. They have a really good campus. I know a lot of their players are in the NFL Combine. They had a good season this year, they went 12-1.”

When he gets to South Bend, he’ll be keeping a close eye on how the program runs.

“The style, the coaching style, how well they coach their defensive linemen,” he explains.

He’s made recent visits to Virginia, Virginia Tech and NC State.

“It feels good going out and experiencing every school and looking to see what all of the schools have to offer,” he says.

He’s also hoping to get to Michigan this spring.

College scouts like the package he brings to the position.

“They really like my size and how well I get off the ball,” Gilliam says. “How I can move in different directions and things like that.”

Comfort and cohesion will be important to Gilliam’s final decision.

“What school makes me feel like I’m at home and how well we can cooperate as a defense, how well the coaches communicate and things like that.”
