INTEL | Behind the Predictions
It’s time to make some predictions as we enter official visit season.
Notre Dame will host several top targets this weekend for official visits and we’ll have updates all weekend.
2020 Offensive Lineman Tosh Baker
I have felt the four-star offensive lineman had the Irish out in front since his visit in December. His most recent visit came last weekend and he seemed to really be comfortable in South Bend. Baker was all smiles during Notre Dame’s practice on Saturday and I hear that continued through the weekend.
2020 quarterback commit Drew Pyne was also on campus and we all know he never takes his recruiting hat off.
Prediction: Notre Dame
2020 Receiver Maliq Carr
Notre Dame made Carr’s top five last month along with LSU, Michigan, Purdue and Texas A&M. I fully expect some teams to get in the race before it’s all said and done, but I’m not sure Notre Dame will have much movement either way.
I believe Notre Dame is a program he likes quite a bit and Carr can see the success Del Alexander has had with bigger receivers in Chip Long’s offense. However, I think the relationships he has at Michigan will trump all other programs for one of the most physically imposing prospects I’ve seen in person.
Prediction: Michigan
2020 Receiver Xavier Watts
Watts is flying under the radar in terms of his recruitment, but also in the minds of Notre Dame fans. Notre Dame wants the four-star speedster and he knows it. Watts is a kid with a chip on his shoulder and has seen other receivers get more attention from the media, but make no mistake; the Irish would love to add him to the class.
The Omaha (Neb.) native will be on campus this month and it’ll be an important one. The pull to Nebraska is strong, but I think with a good visit to South Bend, the Irish can put themselves in the driver’s seat in this one.
Prediction: Notre Dame
2021 Safety Derrick Davis
I didn’t know what to expect when I spoke to Davis for the first time on Sunday afternoon. I walked away being totally impressed with how mature and well-spoken he was for a sophomore in high school.
Davis was on campus a few weeks ago and left knowing Notre Dame was a major player for him. The 6-foot, 176-pounder has an impressive offer list now, but I fully expect him to blow up into a national prospect sooner than later.
Now, it’s a long way to go in this recruitment, but Notre Dame hit the right spots with him and education is going to be a significant part of his decision. A lot of kids speak highly of academics, but he went more in-depth than most kids and understands what Notre Dame can do for him.
Oh, his dad was also rocking a Notre Dame.
