Andrew David is just looking for a chance to compete.

Massillion High School head coach Nate Moore arrived at the Oho power a year after David graduated, but he’s gotten to know him well in the years since.

“Andrew is a fantastic young man,” Moore said. “I’ve had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with him over the last couple years. He comes home often and like a lot of kickers, he wants to come home and kick.

“There’s no way better to come home to kick than here at Massillion with the Paul L. David indoor facility we have, so he’s here quite a bit. He’s a fantastic man. He’s going to be very successful in whatever he chooses to do after football. In the meantime, he’s an excellent punter and excellent kicker.”

After starting his career at Michigan and then heading to TCU for three years, David is looking for a place to finish his college career.

“Andrew is very skilled as both a punter and kicker,” Moore said. “He punted at TCU, but he was originally at the Team Up North as a kicker. He’s very skilled in both of those specialist positions.

“One thing that is really unique about Andrew is he can do just about every different style of punting from the traditional punt to making the balls roll with backspin to rugby stuff and placing the ball, really everything. He’s very, very skilled.”

But what David is really in search of is a chance to display his versatility as a specialist.

“I think what he’s looking for is a legitimate opportunity to compete to be a kicker,” Moore said. “He enjoys punting and that part of it, but he wants a legitimate shot to be a kicker.

“It’s unfortunate when you have to move around, but you only have one chance to do it. You have one chance to do these four or five years and you can never get it back. He’s trying to find a real good situation for him to perform and utilize his talents. He’s looking for a place that is going to give him a legitimate chance to compete, which hasn’t happened to this point.”

David visited Notre Dame recently and was expected to check out Northwestern before settling on his next move.

“Those are two visits I’m aware of and two fantastic options. The family will get together and make the best decision they can.”
