2020 Long Snapper Alex Peitsch Excited For Notre Dame Offer

2020 St. John’s College (D.C.) long snapper Alex Peitsch‍ picked up an offer from Notre Dame earlier this week after special teams coordinator Brian Polian stopped by his school to see a workout.

“Coach Polian came down to St. John’s College and he wanted to watch me snap,” Peitsch told Irish Sports Daily. “During my weights period, I went to the field and snapped some balls. He liked what he saw.”

While the offer surprised a few Notre Dame fans, it was somewhat expected for the 6-foot-2, 218-pounder as he had visited South Bend earlier this winter and had been in constant contact with Polian.

“I almost thought it was coming because everything was lining up,” explained Peitsch. “Coach Polian had told me they were going to scholarship a 2020 guy. My Athletic Director told me before I snapped that if I did my thing I would have the scholarship.”

Peitsch might have been prepared for the offer, but when he had time to collect his thoughts, it was a significant moment for him.

“Once I got the offer, it was surreal,” stated Peitsch. “It’s Notre Dame. It’s not high school football or youth football. It’s Notre Dame.”

The D.C. native also is familiar with the Notre Dame program not only from this visit, but for a few other reasons.

“I’ve been talking with Coach Polian a lot and I visited in February,” Peitsch said. “I have a former teammate (DJ Brown) on the team now. It’s a really good fit because of the academics, athletics and scholarship.”

Notre Dame isn’t the only program recruiting the nation’s top long snapper as a few other major programs would love to land him.

“It kind of depends,” Peitsch stated. “I know Vanderbilt is coming in. Penn State and Wake Forest might be coming in. I wouldn’t say they are the only ones talking scholarship, but they are the ones most serious about it along with Georgia.”

Peitsch will now turn his focus to setting up visits, which will likely include an official visit to Notre Dame.

“I don’t have any visits planned yet,” Peitsch said. “I was talking with Coach Polian and he spoke with my Athletic Director about setting up an official visit to Notre Dame. I’d definitely like to plan that.

“I’m looking for big-time football, a scholarship and great academics. You know that’s something Notre Dame has, so it’s really nice.”

As for a timeline, Peitsch is taking his time and making sure he turns over every stone.

“I’m not really sure yet,” said Peitsch when asked if he had a commitment timeframe. “It’s not something I have thought about. I’m processing everything and seeing what folds out. I’m going along with the ride right now.”
