2020 S Jerrin Thompson Loves Hitting & Wants To Love Notre Dame
2020 Lufkin (Texas) safety Jerrin Thompson might be one of the nation’s best-kept secrets.
The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is one of the most physical prospects in the country, but also make play after play.
Notre Dame took notice recently and offered the four-star prospect last week.
“Notre Dame came to my school and watched practiced,” Thompson told Irish Sports Daily. “I was excited to get an offer from Notre Dame.”
East Texas isn’t usually an area Notre Dame has recruited, but the Lufkin star is aware of the Irish and knows they can help him accomplish his goals.
“I know a couple of things about Notre Dame,” stated Thompson. “I just know they are a good program. They put people in the league.”
The Texas native might not know a ton about the Irish to this point, but he knows a thing or two about playing football.
“I like hitting,” said Thompson. “It makes the game fun. I can cover pretty well. I’m working on my man-to-man coverage. I don’t play man much in our scheme, but I know I’ll have to play it at the next level.”
Arkansas, LSU and TCU are a couple of the programs recruiting Thompson the hardest. Thompson will tell you the majority of programs are recruiting him to play in space, while Notre Dame’s pitch is a little different.
“Most teams are recruiting me as a free safety,” explained Thompson. “Notre Dame is recruiting me as a strong safety. I’ll pay either one of them. I’ll play wherever a team needs me.”
When it comes to getting to South Bend, Thompson expects to be at Notre Dame in June for an official visit.
“I think I have set an official visit,” Thompson said. “Notre Dame said they want me up there June 21-23rd.”
It will be a crucial visit for Thompson and Notre Dame as he plans to make a decision shortly after the trip.
“I just want to be comfortable and see if it’s a place I can see myself,” said Thompson. “I want to make sure I can see myself there for however long I’m there. I want to fall in love with it.
“I want to make my decision on July 6th.”
