Cade Denhoff‍ began have communications with Notre Dame a couple weeks back.

Initially, the 2021 Florida defensive end was in contact with Irish defensive line graduate assistant Keli’l Moanauli Kekuewa. Then, he got in touch with Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston and eventually Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn dropped by Lakeland Christian School to check in on Denhoff.

“They’ve just been getting me more intrigued in their program and how they roll and their academics and stuff,” the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder said. “They were commenting on my academics because that’s a big part of me as a player. I take pride in that as much as I do with what I do on the field.

“They’re just telling me more and more about their program, their culture, their coaches and how they roll in South Bend. They were telling me if I could get up to camp, that would be the next move.”

That next move is now locked in as Denhoff will make it up to South Bend for Notre Dame’s Lineman’s Challenge.

“I’m going to their camp on the 15th of June and I’ll be up there for an unofficial visit on the 14th,” he said.

He’s looking forward to the trip.

“I know their campus is absolutely beautiful, so I’d like the be able to see that,” he explained. “Obviously, they’re a championship pedigree team. They were in the College Football Playoff last year and previous years before that. I just know what kind of football they play, so I’d love to be able to go experience that in a camp setting to hopefully get more familiar with it.”

Denhoff would love to add Notre Dame to a growing offer sheet.

“It would mean a lot,” he said. “They’re a really, really good team. They’re well-coached. It would mean a lot to know they feel that strongly about me as a player that they would offer me a scholarship. I’d be honored.”

He currently has 17 offers from schools like Miami, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, Virginia, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Pitt and Illinois among others.

“Obviously, it’s humbling to know that that many people are interested in you as a player and student-athlete,” he said. “I try to be level-headed and stay humble about it. It’s very exciting, but it’s also humbling.”

College scouts are pleased with Denhoff’s effort.

“Most of the time, they tell me about how much of a motor I have,” he said. “They see me going full speed a lot, so that’s probably the biggest thing they comment on, just how I play full speed every play.”

Denhoff will camp at Florida on Saturday, Alabama on Monday and then spend a few days at Clemson.

At this point, he doesn’t have any favorites.

“I’m just keeping my options open and checking everybody out. I’m young, so I’m just taking it all in. No leaders at the moment.”
