The busy month of recruiting for Notre Dame continued on Sunday as the Irish picked up another verbal commitment in the form of 2020 Pennsylvania offensive lineman Michael Carmody‍.

The Irish extended a scholarship to Carmody early last month later than many other potential suitors, but they made up grown in a hurry with a visit to South Bend last week and another trip back to campus on Saturday. Carmody had been on campus dozens of times in the past with his brother, current Notre Dame basketball player Robby Carmody.

That familiarity with the school and the campus helped accelerate the recruiting process between the two sides. But in the end, the comfort he felt with offensive line coach Jeff Quinn and the players on the team played a huge role as well.

“He’s been there so often, he’s got an insider’s view of it,” Carmody’s father, Rob Carmody told Irish Sports Daily. “Getting the opportunity to spend time with the coaches, particularly Coach (Jeff) Quinn and Mike getting to spend time with the players was really great for him and gave him the kind of perspective he needs to help with this decision.”

Carmody chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like Michigan, Penn State and Texas A&M among several others. All of the other serious contenders had already offered by the time Notre Dame did so on May 5th, but Carmody seemed more excited about the offer than worried about the timing of it.

“It’s pretty awesome to get that offer,” he told Irish Sports Daily at time. “Robby is there and it’s in our bloodline now that we have a Notre Dame kid and I have an offer to play football there. It’s pretty incredible.”

His commitment gives the Irish two offensive linemen in the Class of 2020, joining Arizona tackle Tosh Baker‍ and 13 total pledges in the class.
