Top 2023 Notre Dame Commit Chase Krewson Fired Up to Join Winning Culture
2023 South Fayette (Pa.) outfielder/pitcher Chase Krewson committed to Notre Dame in December of 2019 and made his third trip to South Bend at the end of October.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder was able to reconnect with the players and staff, which included some time head coach Link Jarrett and assistant Rich Wallace as they’ve kept close tabs on the Pennsylvania native.
“I really appreciated the hospitality from the coaches and players,” Krewson told ISD. “It was all first-class. The visit was amazing for me.
“I had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Jarrett and talk in-depth about the program and his philosophies for success. I also had the opportunity to talk with Coach Wallace to assess my summer and fall seasons as he was able to watch me throughout this year, which was great for my personal development.”
Jarrett’s talks have been highlighted by a number of prospects this fall as they are straightforward and yet fire up players to become part of the program.
"Coach Jarrett's message results in a winning culture,” stated Krewson. “When I picked Notre Dame, I wanted to be part of that winning culture and make it to Omaha when I get there. I feel the message he gives the players really speaks for itself. He's very direct in what he wants, which I love as a person to be able to understand what you need to do to succeed."
Wallace also drew high remarks from Krewson as the two have built an extremely strong relationship over the last two years.
"He's really down to earth,” Krewson said of Wallace. “He understands mechanics and philosophy with hitting. He wants to get to know you as a player, but also as a person and build a relationship with you. You can tell he wants to build a relationship with you as a human being."
Krewson and his family also got a tour of Notre Dame from pitching coach Chuck Ristano before one of the highlights of the trip.
“We also got to meet with the strength and conditioning coach, the team nutritionist and the academic advisor,” explained Krewson. “Seeing the support for the student-athletes, my family and I thought it was really incredible. We also got a tour before the football game with Coach Ristano. During his tours, he gives a lot of background and historical information about the University and I thought that was really cool to learn about where I’m going to school.
“The football game was unbelievable and it was incredible being able to walk through the tunnel to the field. That was definitely one of the coolest moments of my life. The experience in the stadium was electric and it was good to see Notre Dame get a win.”
The weekend was also a chance for Krewson to mingle with his future teammates. Fellow 2023 commit Troy Reader had connected with Krewson over the summer, but they were able to meet Davis Johnson for the first time and experience the culture at Notre Dame.
"It was fun to meet some of my future teammates, especially the other 2023 commits, Troy and Davis," Krewson stated. "It was really enjoyable getting to be around the people I'll be with for the next four years at Notre Dame.
"They all have the same goals as me. We want to build that winning culture at Notre Dame and continue what Coach Jarrett and Coach Wallace want to do for the future.
"I think we meshed really well. It was really enjoyable to be around them and people who are like me. I'm excited for the future with them."
Krewson's offseason has started and he's training at Outer Limits, a facility Notre Dame fans have heard about a time or two as Bill Nichol has trained the Carmody brothers and former Irish quarterback Phil Jurkovec.
"I've definitely seen a ton of growth since I started there in seventh grade," explained Krewson. "I feel like the growth I wanted, I've gotten to that point and they have a set plan from now until I make it to Notre Dame.
"I'm looking forward to getting those hours in the gym and I have full trust in those guys. They have a really solid foundation for building Notre Dame athletes."
As for his offseason goals, Krewson is working on the basics and the fine details as he prepares for his junior season with his hitting and pitching trainer Chris Koutsavlis, who played at Marshall.
"I want to improve my general physique,” said Krewson. "I can definitely get a lot stronger and create more power. I have good power now, but I feel there is another level I can get to in my game.
"I'm feeling really good hitting. My mechanics, I've worked with my hitting trainer and I've been with him since I was eight. I have a close connection with him. My approach can get better and hunting pitches - or different pitches in the count.
"On the pitching side, I also work with Chris, so dialing in my mechanics and hopefully bumping up my velo to potentially get to 90 next season would be huge."
