Irish Looking to Rebound

Notre Dame and Boston College are ready for another grudge match this weekend as Notre Dame travels to Boston for their week three matchup.

Both teams will be coming into Saturday’s game with the same 1-1 record. Boston College started off the year with a 23-20 win over Northern Illinois but fell last week to Wake Forest 34-10. They would love to pull out a win in their home stadium to build some momentum before heading to Death Valley in week 4 to face Clemson.

It will be important for Notre Dame to continue to improve and build on what they learned in a hard-fought loss to Georgia. The defense played extremely well and have shown drastic improvements from a year ago. It will be important for quarterback Brandon Wimbush and the Irish offense to get back on track.

All offseason long, Chip Long preached the importance of the run game. Hopefully, Notre Dame can run all over Boston College and gain an important win in their first away game of the season.

Five Players to Watch

Jerry Tillery

Tillery hasn't put up eye-popping numbers so far this season, but has played very well. He is matched up against a second string center at BC who struggled last week. Look for Tillery to be in the backfield a lot today.

Michael Young

Brian Kelly has talked about going younger at receiver while he is looking for someone to step up. This could be the game where they finally unleash Young who has explosive ability and had a great camp.

Dexter Williams

With no carries versus Georgia, everyone will be watching to see how the coaches use Williams this week. He'll find his way into the rotation and the Irish will need him to make an impact.

Robert Hainsey

This could be the week that Hainsey takes over the right tackle job full-time. A lot will depend on how he handles going against All-American Harold Landry. He won't win every battle in pass protection, but need to rebound to win the next one each time Landry gets pressure.

Brandon Wimbush

Boston College's defense has been terrific on 3rd down so far and Wimbush has not been great in his 3rd down opportunities. The Irish need him to be

Quote of the Week

“When it comes down to it, Georgia just executed better at the end of the game. They made the big plays that you have to make in college football to win games. It wasn’t a question of our grit or our attention to detail.

"I’ve never seen a group of guys want something so much and to fall short tonight, it really hurts. But moving forward, I’m scared for other teams because we’re coming to punish each and every opponent we play.”

Wimbush does not know how to pass. BS that he is good. He is completely inaccurate from what i have seen. Please convince me how this is not true

These routes that Long AND Kelly have designed are atrocious.
its not rocket science. when you best guy is doubled constantly, go deep on the other side. Do we have no one that can run a go or is our limited passing game only 5 yard routes or less.

and this is NOT a BK passing game. obvious its all Long. Only thing you can blame BK for is relinquishing control and focusing on the run game
Long did not design the O without BK approving it.

Or this game plan.

BK relinquished okay-calling, but he didn't leave the Gug and go home.
see "relinquishing control"

he's the head guy and could over rule (and should) but this pass offense (which is terrible) is nothing like we have seen in past years...AKA it's Long
Dude, BK has seen these plays before today.
of course he has seen them. no one saying he hasn't. I'm saying that this pass offense is a joke...middle school level design. BK's offenses of the past 7+ years have been quite the opposite (too complex if anything).

This is what you get with a run first offense...we have become Florida, just without the dominant defense

Good lord. Wimbush may be the worst passer we've had since Pat Dillingham.

I disagree. BK did see the plays and as a CEO asked why run this plays and what were the options as games progressed either in the positive direction or the negative one. But CL is calling them

Book!!! Would like to see him for a full series. Like I said, BW is playing with heart and willing to take the hits, but his Football IQ is really limited. He is still Doe-Eyed.

I'm ready for Nyles Morgan to begin the season anytime now.

Guy has been the invisible man considering his potential.

BC 13 first downs to our 8.

We have 271 yds to their 228.

We have 53 yds passing to their 111.

3-9 on 3rd down to their 2-9.

Can't believe we are winning 14-10. It is all because of two big runs by Adams.

I dare say the defense isn't a giant issue right now considering we are close to inept
On offense

Disappointed also in bw. However if you keep him in there play to his strengths, That is not pocket passing right now. Otherwise you need to live with the consequences or make a change.

Wimbush is not real accurate and tends to throw too hard when the receiver is too close. However, his receivers do not do great jobs at getting open or making tough catches.

The recruiting is vastly overrated and nothing too much coming in 2018.

The game is too fast for Wimbush at the moment. Didn't expect that. Watch his feet when in the pocket...he has happy feet. Compare to Kizer (had great pocket footwork).

The other factor is they are taking away eq. He is either bracketed or doubled on every play. The only thing he will get open on is a short cross. Need to go down the field to someone else...anyone else
