Notre Dame’s Class of 2020 will have at least one more early enrollee than previously expected.

Irish Sports Daily has learned that wide receiver commit Jay Brunelle‍ has been cleared by St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Mass., to graduation in December.

Private schools often balk at allowing students to graduate early, but it was important enough for Brunelle to find a way and he did.

Outside of the typical sacrifices that come with kids enrolling early – specifically missing what’s often the fun half of their senior years – Brunelle will be adding a rigorous set of courses that will give him the necessary credits to graduate in time to report to South Bend in January.

“I really think that it’s going to benefit me in many ways,” Brunelle told Irish Sports Daily. “I think everything I know I need to develop will be worked on at an accelerated pace starting in January and I will be very comfortable heading into my freshman year on and off the field.

“I think it was crucial to get a jump and really absorb everything I can within the program to benefit the team in anyway I can.”

Brunelle is the fifth member of 2020 Notre Dame class set to enroll early, joining fellow wideout Xavier Watts, quarterback Drew Pyne and defensive linemen Rylie Mills and Alexander Ehrensberger.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Brunelle chose Notre Dame over Michigan and several other offers back in June.
