It’s still early in Isaac Thompson’s recruitment, but with a couple Power-Five offers already and a pair of mentors with extensive experience in the process, the 2022 St. Louis athlete will be well-positioned as he continues to go through the process.

Thompson plays receiver, running back, cornerback and safety for St. Louis University High School, but expects to play defensive back in college. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder already has offers from Missouri and Arizona, but he’s hoping those are just a springboard for bigger offers, specifically Notre Dame.

He says Notre Dame has “been my dream school forever.”

That says a lot considering his father, Hickey Thompson, played at Michigan State in the early-1990s while his coach, Mike Jones, played linebacker at Missouri before spending a decade in the NFL with the St. Louis Rams and other teams.

You might remember him.

Notre Dame defensive backs coach Todd Lyght was a member of that Rams championship team and has been in contact with his former teammate about Thompson.

Thompson is hoping for the chance to perform in front of the Irish if they make it to one of his games this fall.

He’s already planning on taking the Irish up on the opportunity to get to South Bend for the USC game in October.

Academics will be a major part of Thompson’s ultimate decision and he’s thinking about majoring in Business.

He’s already visited Iowa, Missouri and Illinois and is also looking at a return visit to Iowa this season.
