2021 Hart County (Ga.) tight end Cane Berrong‍ made his first trip back to South Bend this weekend since committing to Notre Dame in June.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder saw the Irish play in Athens the week before, but getting back to his future home was an opportunity Berrong was excited for heading into the visit.

“It was awesome,” stated Berrong. “The student section was great really into the game. The atmosphere was great.”

While it was a quick trip, Berrong and his family were able to enjoy themselves while on campus and get a little more familiar with Notre Dame.

“It was good, but we didn’t have a lot of time,” said Berrong. “We showed up right before the game. We walked around a little after the game.”

Berrong has been in regular contact with offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Chip Long since his commitment and he enjoyed his time with Long and head coach Brian Kelly.

“They were just excited to see me,” Berrong said.

Saturday was also an opportunity to get to meet his future teammates. 2020 defensive lineman Aidan Keanaaina‍ and 2021 defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio‍ were also in town and all three players hit it off.

“They were cool guys,” Berrong said. “Gabe’s dad threw popcorn in the air when Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa caught the fumble and almost returned it for a touchdown.”

All in all, Berrong wasn’t surprised by anything at Notre Dame and was reminded why South Bend was his future home throughout the visit.

“Nothing really surprised me,” said Berrong. We always enjoy Notre Dame. I’ll be back for the USC game.”
