Pouncey Receives Reassurement From Parents
Jordan Pouncey isn’t going to forget Saturday night’s game for a while.
The 2017 Notre Dame wide receiver commit was in South Bend on his official visit and saw the Irish lose to Stanford 17-10.
“I want to get up there and make an impact to help the team and the coaching staff,” Pouncey said. “After watching that game, it really made me want to get up there and suit up in the blue and gold.
“I know when I play Stanford the first time, I’m going to have some hard feelings about it.”
The outcome of the game was probably the only downside of the entire weekend for the Winter Park, Fla., native.
“It was amazing,” Pouncey said. “Just coming back to my future home and being able to spend time with the coaching staff and some of the other commits. I got to see a little bit more than I did the first time. I met with the academic staff, I met with the admissions office and I got to see a little bit more of a campus, which was a great experience.”
Pouncey was one of a few committed visitors along with some other 2017 uncommitted official visitors.
“I was with (Robert) Hainsey most of the time and Grant Delpit and Amari Carter too then Isaiah Robertson and Michael Young,” said Pouncey. “We just hung out together. We had very good vibes.”
The Irish coaching staff was sure to let him know how badly he’s wanted at Notre Dame.
“After the game, I was getting a lot of, ‘Man, we can’t wait for you to get here,’-type deals,” he said. “It feels good. It seems like they’re very, very excited to have me a part of their program.”
And despite the loss, he was impressed with the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium.
“It was the livest college football game I’ve ever been to and that’s saying a lot because I was at the Miami-FSU game and this game trumped that,” he said.
But as much as anything, this visit was a chance for Pouncey’s parents to get their first look at the school he’s picked. Pouncey’s mother was clearly impressed.
“She loved it,” he said. “She almost started crying a couple of times.
“We met with the admissions officer and apparently, he told my parents that I impressed him a lot more than some of the other kids he’s met with in the past who went here and that he would be more than happy to invite me to the University if I keep up the hard work I’ve been doing.”
Pouncey came into the trip looking for reassurance from his parents that he made the right decision and that’s what he got.
“Definitely.”
