Donovan Leary‍ got a chance to check out Notre Dame on Saturday and the 2022 New Jersey quarterback was not disappointed.

“It was great,” said Leary. “I had a lot of fun.

“We got there a little late because our flight got delayed. We got picked up in a golf cart, we walked through the facilities, the indoor football field. We got full tours of the complex and the school. Then we headed to the game.”

The Timber Creek High School standout (pictured above left with 2022 DE teammate Jihaad Campbell) was impressed with what he saw.

“They’re some of the top facilities in the country from what I’ve seen so far,” Leary said. “I really liked it up there.”

The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder sophomore also enjoyed the atmosphere inside Notre Dame Stadium for the Irish’s win over Navy.

“It was crazy,” he said. “A lot of love, a lot of people. I heard it was one of the first games that wasn’t sold out and there were still a lot of people there. I really liked it.”

Leary, who has early offers from schools like Rutgers, Temple and Maryland among others, was also impressed with the Irish’s offensive attack during the 52-20 victory.

“They executed all of their plays at the right spots at the right times,” the signal-caller said. “They had their playmakers making plays and Ian Book did a great job getting the playmakers the ball. That’s why they scored so many points.”

Leary had a chance to speak with Notre Dame quarterbacks coach Tom Rees, who explained the limitations imposed by the NCAA in directly contacting underclassmen.

“But he wanted to let me know that he saw me and to say hi,” Leary explained. “He’s a great guy. That’s a great offense of course and what they did to Navy was incredible.

“I think he’s good at developing quarterbacks and they know what they’re doing.”

It’s still early in the process, but Leary said, “I really like Notre Dame,” and that he would “definitely have to store this one away and keep looking back on it.”

His next trip will be down to Raleigh on Thanksgiving Weekend to check out North Carolina State, where his brother, Devin, plays quarterback.

“It helps a lot considering he went through the process and knows what colleges are looking for,” he said of having his brother’s experience with the recruiting process. “He helps a lot giving me different keys and different points of advice of what to look for in a coach, an offense and a team.”
