BK Checks In On 2020 TE Commit Kevin Bauman
Only hours after news broke that Notre Dame will be looking for a new offensive coordinator and tight ends coach, Irish head coach Brian Kelly was in New Jersey to visit with 2020 tight end commit Kevin Bauman.
“It was cool,” Bauman said of the visit, which also included Notre Dame assistant Tom Rees. “It’s kind of like a dream come true.
“Growing up, you watch movies like ‘The Blind Side’ and see the in-home visits. Then it happens to you and it’s almost kind of surreal. I’ve been waiting a long time for this.”
Kelly and Rees were very positive throughout the meeting.
“They’re excited to get me up there, to get our class up there,” the Red Bank Catholic High School standout said. “There are a lot of big things happening in the program and I can’t wait to get started.”
Bauman certainly wasn’t shaken to learn he’d have a new position coach when he does arrive.
“Stuff like this happens all of the time in college football,” he said. “It’s something that just comes with the business. It doesn’t impact my decision at all. I’ll still be signing the 18th.
“You don’t come to Notre Dame for a single coach necessarily. You come for what the program can bring to you and what Notre Dame is.”
Kelly and Rees told him they would be starting their search for a new offensive coordinator and/or tight ends coach right away.
“They’ll have a guy soon,” said Bauman.
Bauman, who committed to the Irish back in June of 2018, is just focused and excited about signing his National Letter of Intent next Wednesday.
“I’m pumped,” he said. “It’s just kind of that final step in making a dream come true…just putting the pen to paper finally after being committed for over a year. It’s going to be nice to finally make it official.”
