Lugg Scores Irish Offer
After experiencing an “amazing” first visit to Notre Dame last weekend, Josh Lugg received an offer from the Irish on Thursday afternoon.
“I am very honored to receive an offer from such a prestigious school like Notre Dame,” Lugg told Irish Sports Daily.
The 2017 Pennsylvania offensive lineman adds Notre Dame to a list that already included schools like Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Maryland, Duke, Boston College, Michigan State, Wisconsin and UCLA among others.
The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder from Wexford, Pa., was invited by Notre Dame assistant Scott Booker to take in Friday’s Junior Day before performing at the Lineman’s Challenge camp on Saturday afternoon.
Lugg was hoping to impress the Irish staff and obviously he took advantage of the opportunity.
“The coaches were very impressed with my performance,” Lugg said.
Lugg was told to contact offensive line coach Harry Hiestand during the week and once he did, he received the good news.
He has always been a fan of Notre Dame athletics and was looking forward to being coached by the Irish staff and experiencing Notre Dame. He was not disappointed.
“It was an amazing visit,” said Lugg. “I really enjoyed seeing what Notre Dame has to offer. The tour of the campus was beautiful. It was awesome competing with and against some really good football players.”
Even prior to the offer, Lugg wanted to return to South Bend in the coming months. He said he would “definitely” welcome the opportunity to get back.
“The coaches want me to come back for a game in the fall,” he said.
The North Allegheny High School standout has his eyes set on some other visits this summer as well.
“I am visiting Tennessee and Penn State in July,” he said. “Also nothing set yet but plan on visiting Duke, Virginia Tech, and Michigan State.
Lugg summed up his weekend trip to South Bend well.
“Overall, everything I experienced (those) two days was impressive.”
