Hinish Returns "Home"
“It was real nice,” the 6-foot-3, 285-pounder said of his stop for the 87th annual Blue-Gold Game. “I really enjoyed it up there. It was like visiting back home. I really liked it.”
After seeing a spring game inside Notre Dame Stadium, the Pittsburgh native is eager to see the real thing.
“I can’t wait to get back up there for an actual game because the atmosphere just for a spring game was insane,” he said. “It was awesome. I can’t wait to play there. I can’t wait to get back up there to see a real game.”
While in town, Hinish had the chance to connect with fellow 2017 commits, Josh Lugg and Brock Wright.
“We hung out at the game,” he said. “We bonded a little, it was a good time.”
The Central Catholic High School standout didn’t have too much time to talk with other visiting recruits.
“We talked to some of them a little bit, but not too much,” he said. “Me, Brock and Josh had a good time messing around with each other. We talked to a couple young guys, but that was about it.”
One thing he was looking forward to doing that he didn’t get the chance to do was meet with some of the current defensive linemen on the squad, but Hinish knows that’ll come next time.
He certainly appreciated his chance to meet with defensive line coach Keith Gilmore and defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.
“They were real cool,” said Hinish. “I got to sit down with Coach Gilmore in a meeting and talk about when I’m going to come up and what he has planned for me. It’s going to be nice. I can’t wait to go. I talked to Coach VanGorder and heard how excited he is. It was real nice.
“We just talked about where I’m going to play. I’m going to play an interior defensive lineman. He just can’t wait until I get up there to coach me and I can’t wait to get up there with him.”
Hinish has a good feeling for his future position coach.
“He’s real cool,” Hinish said of Gilmore. “He seems like he knows what he’s talking about. He’s real down to earth. He seems like a guy who when it’s time to get down to business, he gets down to work.”
Hinish isn’t exactly sure which game he’ll attend in the fall, but he can’t wait.
