Coach Content With 2021 OL Tristan Leigh As Face Of Program
Whether you like it or not, when you’re coaching a talent like Tristan Leigh, he’s going to be the face of your high school football program.
Fortunately for Robinson Secondary School (Va.) head coach Scott Vossler, he likes having Leigh as the face of his program…a lot.
“The fact that he does everything the right way and we can count on him and we know he represents us makes life very easy for me,” Vossler said of the elite 2021 offensive lineman.
“It also gives all of our other kids a great example. They may not have the natural talent that he has, but they see, ‘This is how you’re supposed to act. This is what you’re supposed to do. This is how you’re supposed to work.’ It makes our jobs a lot easier.”
Leigh hasn’t certainly grabbed the attention of college coaches across the country and on Wednesday, he added an offer from Notre Dame to go with offers he already had from schools like Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia among several others.
“He’s got all of the measureables you want,” Vossler said. “He’s a legit 6-6, probably getting closer to 6-7 every day. He’s 280 pounds. He’s long, he’s got big hands and exceptional feet.
“We’ve had a few scholarship guys in our area and there’s no comparison to his raw ability. He’s special.”
When combined with his attitude off the field, Leigh becomes a no-brainer, according to Vossler.
“He’s just got no red flags,” the coach said. “He’s a great student. He’s a model citizen. He’s got great work ethic. He’s a personable kid. I think when everybody finally meets him, they realize there’s no reason why you wouldn’t offer him.”
Vossler said Leigh was “excited” to learn he’d added the Irish to his offer sheet today.
“Two years ago, our staff kind of knew he’d probably end up being a Power 5 recruit,” the coach explained. “You never knew how big he was going to be. At the time, he knew very, very little about the college football landscape. When I first started talking to him when people were interested in him, he didn’t know a whole lot. He said, ‘Coach, I really only watch the NFL.’ I said, ‘Well, you better start watching college football, buddy.’
“Since then, he’s very much educated himself on everything. He knew right away who the offensive linemen from Notre Dame who went to the pros recently. He said he liked watching them play, so he definitely has a knowledge base for what Notre Dame’s offensive line is all about. He’s intrigued by it.”
With so many college options, Leigh is still sorting through them all. He’s playing basketball now, but when the season is over, he should start looking at getting to more schools for visits. The Irish will surely be trying to get on the itinerary.
