After receiving an invitation over social media about a month ago, Dre Pinckney‍ quickly made plans to get to South Bend for Notre Dame’s Junior Day on Feb. 1st.

“I talked to my parents and found hotels with the flights,” the 2021 South Carolina defensive back said.

“It’s a unique experience. It’s not every day that somebody from down here gets to go all of the way up to South Bend and experience something like that. It’s a great program with a lot of history behind it. I just want to see it for myself and see if that’s where I want to end up going.”

The 6-foot, 195-pounder has a half-dozen offers at this point from Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, UNC-Charlotte, Georgia State and Georgia Southern.

“I think what they like about my game is that I’m versatile,” the Boiling Springs High School standout said.

“If I need to, I can come down in the box and if I need to go outside and play corner, I’ll do that, but I still have the smarts to play safety and be the backend of the defense and communicate with everybody to let them know what’s going on.”

Pinckney is looking forward to getting a feel for Notre Dame this weekend.

“The community, how they treat my family, how I’m treated,” he said of what he’s most looking forward to seeing. “Most importantly, academics, seeing how the coaches interact with their players, all of that good stuff.”

Pinckney is also receiving interest from Louisville and West Virginia. He could make it to Louisville and Morgantown for a visit in March. He is planning a visit to Liberty in the coming weeks.
