Coach | 2022 WR Talyn Shettron "Very Excited" By Notre Dame Offer
Not only does Talyn Shettron have the physical tools of a standout prospect, the 2022 Oklahoma wide receiver has the makeup to succeed at the highest level, according to his coach.
Santa Fe High School head coach Kyle White says Shettron is a true competitor.
“In our biggest games, he had his biggest games,” White explains. “They always say big-time players make big-time plays in big-time games. He definitely does that and rises to the occasion and takes the burden on his shoulders and goes out and produces.”
Of course, the 6-foot-3, 180-pounder has the physical ability to do so as well.
“He’s a very, very talented young man,” says White. “He’s tall, he’s long. He’s got long arms. He’s athletic, he runs good routes. He catches the ball well. He’s a good blocker. This year, he demonstrated breakaway speed.”
Off the field, White calls Shettron “a great young man.”
“It’s nice for a great young man to represent our football program,” the coach continues. “He’s really humble, he works hard. He shows up every day with a smile and a great attitude. He’s a great student. He plays basketball for us as well and does an unbelievable job. He’s just a very, very positive influence for our program and Santa Fe High School.”
Shettron has already caught the attention of dozens of top college programs and last week, he added an offer from Notre Dame.
“He was very excited, very excited about it,” says White. “He’s looking forward to seeing how everything goes from here, but he was very excited and very honored to get an offer from a place like Notre Dame.”
Shettron visited South Bend for a game in November and could be back.
“Being a sophomore, he’s got time,” says White. “It wouldn’t surprise me. They came up on an unofficial visit last fall to go to a game and did all of that, so I could definitely see him making a return visit for sure.”
The sophomore also has offers from schools like Arkansas, Iowa State, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State among others.
Wide receivers coach Del Alexander has been the point man for the Irish at Santa Fe.
“I think he’s a great guy,” says White. “From our conversations, I think he’s a great guy, does a great job coaching wide receivers and teaching values and explaining what he looks for and Talyn checks those boxes for him.
“I think he’s a great coach and his players probably love playing for him.”
