2017 Neuqua Valley (Ill.) athlete Isaiah Robertson has seen Notre Dame a number of times throughout the recruiting process, but Saturday’s visit was on another level. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder got a deep look into every day life in South Bend, but he got a huge surprise in the form of a scholarship offer from head coach Brian Kelly.

“We walked into Coach Kelly’s office, sat down and starting talking about life at Notre Dame,” Robertson told Irish Sports Daily. “He just came out of the blue and said he was offering me. When he said that, shock and joy came over me at the same time, because the day before, they called me and actually told me they weren’t going to offer me the next day. So when they did offer, I was ecstatic and extremely grateful.”

The four-star prospect was on hand to see Notre Dame practice on Saturday morning and made sure to watch both side of the football, as he could play receiver or defensive back at the next level.

“Everything was just as good as I could remember the last time I was up there,” Robertson said. “I would say the best new thing I saw was how the coaches coached. I got to sit in on the defensive backs meeting with Coach Lyght and watch him coach up the d-backs.

“When we got on the field, I got to see how Coach Denbrock coached the wideouts and the offense. IT was just cool to see the coaches handle their players when they were in full out coaching mode.”

When asked who or what stood out to him at practice, Robertson gave an answer that should make Notre Dame fans pretty giddy.

“The new recruit Kevin Stepherson,” stated Robertson. “Dude, he was burning everyone, one hand snags and all of that. He was cold. He plays extremely smooth. “

Seeing an early enrollee have so much success opened Robertson’s eyes to the truth in the message the coaches have told him. Most coaches tell recruits the best players will play regardless of class, but on Saturday he got to see that in person.

“Definitely,” Robertson explained when asked if saw a freshman making an impact was a positive. “A lot of college play games about that stuff, but Notre Dame seems to be true to their word.”

Robertson will continue on his spring visit schedule and will head into each visit with an open mind.

“I plan on visiting Wisconsin on April 23rd, Illinois next week or something this month,” stated Robertson. “Penn State will get a visit sometime soon.

“My options are always open. There is no lead as of right now.”
