Robertson Recruiting For ND

Isaiah Robertson figures to play mostly defense when he gets to Notre Dame, but the 2017 Irish commit took notice of 2018 quarterback Phil Jurkovec’s commitment earlier this week.

“I just got on Twitter, looked at who he was and his highlights and was extremely excited to see that he had committed,” said Robertson, who gave his own verbal pledge to the Irish last month.

“He’s just a really good dual-threat quarterback. He can do more than just throw the ball. He can get around, scramble and make plays with his feet too, so it’s very exciting to see that he committed.”

The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder from Naperville, Ill., could play receiver or defensive back at the next level, but the Irish see him on defense.

“Safety primarily, but also a little bit of receiver,” Robertson said.

Robertson chose Notre Dame over offers from schools like Illinois, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Iowa State, Indiana, Iowa, Syracuse and Wisconsin among several others. Still, the decision to pick the Irish was a relatively easy one.

“The same thing I’ve been saying since the day they offered me, I can succeed with or without football,” he said of why made the choice he did. “It’s a great family over there. I really see that with all of the commits and the guys who are coming in that Notre Dame really has pieces that can contend for a national championship.

“Those were the three things I’ve been looking for and Notre Dame has all three of them.”

The Neuqua Valley High School star has already started forming relationships with a couple of his 2017 classmates.

“I’ve gotten to know Brock Wright and Josh Lugg,” he said. “I’ve talked to them a few times and really enjoyed those conversations.”

Robertson said he “definitely” plans on trying to recruit other prospects to join the crew.

“Especially at the Irish Invasion,” he said, referring to Notre Dame’s showcase camp next month. “I’ll go out there and see some of the recruits and that’ll be something fun.”

He’s hoping to get his good friend, 7-on-7 teammate and fellow Illinois native, Houston Griffith, to give Jurkovec some company in Notre Dame’s 2018 recruiting class.

But more than anything, he’s looking forward to getting back to South Bend.

“I just really want to visit again and work out with the guys to go against some of the other recruits and commits.”
