Notre Dame Still Way Up There For 2021 CB Ceyair Wright

February 17, 2020

Armond Hawkins doesn’t know much about Ceyair Wright as an actor and whether that experience could help the 2021 California athlete on the football field.

“He’s an actor, I don’t know,” the Ground Zero 7-on-7 coach laughed.

“He never gets too high, doesn’t get too low. He’s an even-keeled kid, so maybe that has something to do with acting, I don’t know.”

Wright is starring as LeBron James’ son in the upcoming Space Jam 2 movie. Clearly, Wright doesn’t shy away from the big stage, but Hawkins said that doesn’t make him stand out among Ground Zero prospects.

“He’s most definitely not afraid of being in the spotlight, but none of our kids are,” said Hawkins. “You’re going to be in the spotlight with us.”

And Wright, who has offers from schools like Notre Dame, USC, Oregon and Arizona State among others, is one that shines in it.

“He’s gifted with speed, straight speed,” Hawkins said of the 6-foot, 170-pound speedster. “I think he runs 10.7, 10.6 in the 100 meters.

“He’s got super high intelligence, so he’s able to come off his man and make breaks on the ball and help other DBs underneath. He’s able to run all of the way back.”

Hawkins offered that Wright is a better prospect than his son, Chris Hawkins, who played defensive back at USC and is now an assistant at Arizona State was at this stage.

“He can cover one half of the field,” Hawkins said of Wright. “I compare him to Adoree’ Jackson.”

While Wright could probably play other positions, which is why he’s listed as an athlete, Hawkins said he’s set to be a corner at the next level.

Wright landed his offer from Notre Dame last summer and visited the Irish back in December.

“He loved it,” Hawkins said of Wright. “I think that’s the kind of school that would fit him, a Notre Dame, a Stanford, schools like that.”

Hawkins said Wright’s father is high on Notre Dame at the moment as well.

“It’ll be Notre Dame, Stanford, USC and Arizona State.”
