Position Switches that Make Sense

Last week ISD’s Matt Freeman broke the news that former defensive tackle Hunter Spears was going to be moving guard this spring. Just a few years ago he was playing defensive end in high school so that position switch might seem like stretch, but it’s really not for a few reasons.

Spears, an early enrollee last year, was 303 pounds last season and was playing nose tackle/1-technique for the Irish. Unfortunately for him, he had three players ahead of him on the depth chart heading into 2020: returning starter Kurt Hinish, rising sophomore Jacob Lacey, and redshirt sophomore Ja’mion Franklin.
