Notre Dame assistant coach Scott Booker wasted no time to check on 2017 tight end commit Brock Wright. Less than 24 hours after the Irish lost to USC, Booker made the trip to Cypress (Texas) to see the four-star prospect.
“He was here Sunday and we met for about two hours,” Wright told Irish Sports Daily. “It was a really visit. It went really well.
“It was mainly him talking about how they are excited to get me up there and turn things around. He said they were going to have a great off season and spring. They are looking forward to what is to come.”
Notre Dame finished the season 4-8, but the message has been consistent from Booker and the staff through it all.
“We talked about it throughout the season,” explained Wright. “We kept in touch every week and we talked about how it was one of those years and you have your ups and downs. They lost a lot of really close games.
“We have a lot of long talent on the team and I really think that is going to push us in the offseason and make us better.”
“They’ve reached out to me, but I am fully committed to Notre Dame,” stated Wright. “That’s not going to change.”
In past classes, the Notre Dame commits have had a group chat and there still is a confidence in the 2017 group chat.
“Everyone is positive,” Wright said. “Some people are down and you saw Pete (Werner) decommit and that made everyone sad. We liked Pete. Pete was sad to leave us, because he loved our group. Best of luck to him wherever he goes.
“I think for the most part everyone else is still excited and we still have the same goals.”
Wright is just over a month from arriving in South Bend, as he is an early enrollee, so training has also heated up for the Texas native.
“I took a few days off after the season ended and then started a training program,” he explained. “I am trying to get as much as possible in before I get up there. I know I’ll get thrust into it really quick.
“I am going train until my family goes on vacation over Christmas. When I get back I am going to get ready for the Under Armor All-American Game and right after that I will head up to Notre Dame. It’s all happening really fast.”
And yes, you did read that right earlier, Wright says he is 250 pounds and feels that is a good weight to arrive at in South Bend.
“I didn’t have a set goal to be at when I get there,” he stated. “I am big enough so when I get up there, they can put the weight on me once they see where they want me. I am a solid 250 right now, so of course with all the blocking I am going to do, they will want to get some more muscle mass on me. That will come easy once we hit the weight room hard.”
As for the present, Wright is simply waiting on a golden piece of mail.
“I am supposed to get my acceptance letter some time this week or next week,” Wright said of his early enrollment letter. “Everything is in order.”

It’s no secret that Tom Herman is an aggressive recruiter in Texas, so it doesn’t come as a shock that the Longhorns have reached out to the 6-foot-4, 250-pounder.“They’ve reached out to me, but I am fully committed to Notre Dame,” stated Wright. “That’s not going to change.”
