Aaron Banks aka Banks of America is headed to South Bend. The 6-foot-7, 310-pound offensive lineman chose Notre Dame over Michigan, UCLA, Cal, Nebraska, Oregon and Tennessee on Friday afternoon.
The four-star prospect wouldn’t disclose his college decision to anyone, including his own mother until the final moments before he his commitment at El Cerrito High School.
“He’s known for two weeks,” laughed Teresa Banks, Banks’ mother. “He’s a rascal.”
“I’m grateful for the love and attention given to Aaron,” explained Banks. “He was quiet and no one, I mean no one, could figure him out.
“He’s going where he can achieve everything the best way for him. He has the support of his family 1000 percent.”
On the night before his commitment, the Banks family attended a high school banquet that capped off his high school career the right way, as Banks and his younger brother, Frankie, took home honors. Frankie is 6-foot-2, 320-pound sophomore that holds an early offer from Cal.
“Aaron got first-team offense and Frankie got first-team offense and defense,” said Mrs. Banks. “I hope they play together in college.”
Banks will have a quick turnaround after his commitment, as he is an early enrollee and will be in South Bend in January. The California native also sent financial paperwork to Notre Dame and he will spend his final weeks at home watching Frankie play hoops.
“He covered everything,” stated Banks. “It’s a sound and good decision. I think everyone will agree on that.
“Aaron leaves in a month for Notre Dame, but he gets to watch Frankie play basketball for a bit. It drives the team crazy, because they really want Aaron to play. He’s right there totally supporting them though.
“College football is the focus now.”
