It’s been over a year since he’s taken in a Notre Dame game in person and although he won’t be able to get inside the Stadium to watch the Irish play their regular season finale against Syracuse, Sebastian Cheeks‍ will be in town.

“I’ve actually been circling this date on my calendar as the date they’re coming back home,” the 2022 Illinois linebacker said. “It’s definitely something I’m looking forward to doing. A lot of people know ND is obviously high on my radar and a school that’s up there.”

Cheeks was in attendance for the home finale last fall, but with the dead period still in place and the Irish not making tickets available to sell to the general public, Cheeks won’t be able to get inside this weekend.

Still, he’s excited.

“Just get a feel for the campus again,” Cheeks said of what he wants to do. “It was such a great experience (last time). I know it’s going to be their first home game in a while.

“Even without being able to go directly to the Stadium, I definitely feel like I will gain a lot from just being around the atmosphere, around the campus and around the town.”

The Irish extended a scholarship offer to Cheeks back in July and his current list also includes schools like Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas and Stanford among many others.

Notre Dame has done a great job proving their interest and he says his relationships with Brian Kelly, Clark Lea and Nick Lezynski “have grown tremendously.”

“They really make me feel like family,” he continued. “I can always talk about anything with them. I feel like I’m always able to have conversations with them. Obviously, I believe they’re one of the schools I believe will be able to develop me on the field and off the field. Great relationships and a great overall university.”

He’s also formed relationships with 2021 Irish commits Justin Walters and Pat Coogan, who he trains with at WIN Performance in Illinois.

“I’m in a ton of contact with a lot of Notre Dame recruits. They’re all over me. It’s great to get to know some of those guys. It’s definitely good to start building relationships with people.”
