The Skinny
Snelling was one of the first prospects new Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman got in contact with last week. The four-star prospect earned an early offer from Clark Lea and it looks like he’ll continue to be a priority for the Irish.
It will be interesting to see where Snelling ends up in the future as he has the ability to play a couple of spots because of his athleticism and size. Snelling could play Buck or Rover in Notre Dame’s defense and that seems to be the case with most of the offers over the last few years. Flexibility is always good and Snelling is the latest target that has the ability to play multiple linebacker positions. Physicality is an area Notre Dame has taken great pride in over the last four seasons and Snelling would only add to a physical roster. (Yes, his Hudl highlight is well worth the watch)
The X-factor in this recruitment will be Snelling’s baseball future as he’s one of the most coveted pitchers in the country. The 6-foot-3 lefty clocks in at 93 mph, a number that’s increased by 12 mph in the last two years according to PerfectGame. Notre Dame baseball wants him and it will be interesting to see how Notre Dame can come up with a plan between both programs to stand out over some warm weather options.
Timetable
Snelling is taking his time as visits will be a significant part of his recruiting process. One fact I’m trying to check into is if he’s still committed to Stanford for baseball as a freshman, which was well before the football offers came rolling in.
A commitment to Stanford is a positive for Notre Dame as it’s clear he values academics and South Bend is a stop he wants to make in the future. Snelling’s father took a few recruiting trips during his process and has always told his son about his trip to Notre Dame, which was the “big one” according to the two-sport star.

Hoo boy, this kid jumps off the screen. He explodes through ball carriers as a tackler and has elite acceleration. Throw in great timing as a blitzer and it adds up to an exciting prospect.
He’s another who likely projects to Rover, but may end up inside over the course of his college career. He’s a multi-position playmaker with outstanding speed, terrific pass rush potential and his effort as a chase player is phenomenal.
