The high school football season is beginning to get underway across the country, giving Notre Dame fans their first opportunities to see how the future Irish are performing this Fall.
Each week, Irish Sports Daily will take a look at how Notre Dame commits performed for their respective high school teams, highlighting individual performances, big plays and significant team results.
Not every commit will appear every week. Some seasons have yet to begin, while complete individual statistics aren't always available at the high school level.
Here's a look at how some of the Notre Dame commits performed this weekend.
2027 QB Wonderful Monds IV
Champ Monds continued a fast start to the season for Vero Beach on Friday night.
The 2027 Notre Dame quarterback commit completed 21 of 26 passes for 396 yards and four touchdowns while adding two more touchdowns on the ground.
It was the second straight impressive performance to open the season for Monds, who completed 12 of 14 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns while adding two more rushing scores in Vero Beach's opener.
Through two games, Monds has completed 33 of 40 passes for 591 yards and seven touchdowns while adding four touchdowns on the ground.
The start is particularly encouraging after an ankle injury limited Monds during his junior season.
Monds and Vero Beach will face a major test next week against national power St. Frances Academy.
2027 WR Jackson Coleman
Jackson Coleman put together one of the most impressive performances of the weekend among Notre Dame commits.
The Colorado wide receiver caught seven passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns as Valor Christian rolled to a 46-9 victory over Faith Lutheran on Friday night.
It was Coleman's second consecutive 100-yard game to begin the season after he caught seven passes for 116 yards in Valor Christian's opener.
That gives the 2027 Notre Dame commit 14 receptions for 310 yards through Valor Christian's 2-0 start.
At 6-foot-4, Coleman gives Notre Dame a bigger target on the outside and his early-season production has shown his ability to create explosive plays in the passing game.
3 Commits Help St. Thomas Aquinas Roll
Notre Dame had a trio of commits making plays in one of the weekend's marquee national matchups.
2027 wide receiver Julius Jones Jr., 2027 safety Zayden Gamble and 2028 defensive back Andre Jones helped St. Thomas Aquinas cruise to a 38-14 victory over defending Texas state champion DeSoto on Saturday night.
The Raiders did all of their scoring before halftime, taking a stunning 38-0 advantage into the break.
Jones created a turnover during the first half, giving St. Thomas Aquinas possession at the DeSoto 14-yard line before the Raiders scored on the next play.
Gamble provided one of the biggest highlights of the night, picking up a fumbled punt and returning it 65 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter.
Jones Jr. added a touchdown reception shortly afterward, helping send St. Thomas Aquinas into halftime with its 38-point advantage.
The victory moved the Raiders to 2-0 as St. Thomas Aquinas seeks its eighth straight state championship.
2027 CB Ace Alston
Ace Alston contributed in multiple phases as Anderson bounced back in a big way Friday night.
After opening the season with a loss to Louisville Trinity, Anderson overwhelmed West Clermont 70-19 in its conference opener.
Alston recorded an interception on defense and returned a punt for a touchdown for the Raptors.
The punt-return score came from 52 yards out and was part of an incredible first quarter in which Anderson scored 42 points. The Raptors led 56-6 before West Clermont scored on the final play of the first half.
The performance was an encouraging response for Anderson after a difficult opener and gave Alston, who projects as a cornerback at Notre Dame, opportunities to make an impact both in the secondary and with the ball in his hands.
2027 S John Gay III
John Gay III forced a pair of turnovers for Chaminade-Madonna on Thursday night.
The 2027 Notre Dame safety commit recovered two fumbles in a 24-7 loss to Sierra Canyon.
While the result wasn't what Chaminade-Madonna wanted, Gay's two recoveries were among the defensive bright spots for the Lions.
2027 LB Roman Igwebuike
Roman Igwebuike's individual stat line wasn't available, but there wasn't much ordinary about Mount Carmel's Friday night.
The Caravan fell behind St. Joseph Regional 30-0 early in the second quarter of a nationally-televised matchup before mounting a remarkable comeback for a 48-44 victory.
Mount Carmel scored four consecutive touchdowns before halftime to cut the deficit to 30-28 and eventually took its first lead with just over five minutes remaining in the game.
Igwebuike was part of a defense that settled in after the disastrous start and came up with the stops Mount Carmel needed to complete the comeback. The Notre Dame linebacker commit was singled out in game coverage for making plays throughout the defensive turnaround.
Mount Carmel's defense ultimately stopped St. Joseph Regional twice after taking the lead, with an interception sealing the win.
The victory moved the Caravan to 1-1 with Nazareth Academy up next.
2027 RB Lathan Whisenton
Complete individual statistics weren't available for Lathan Whisenton, but Waco Midway opened its season with a 19-0 victory over Leander Rouse.
Whisenton enters his senior season coming off a junior campaign in which he rushed for 1,502 yards and 24 touchdowns on 165 carries.
The Notre Dame running back commit showed some of the burst that made him an Irish priority on one run during Thursday's victory.
Whisenton and Midway will get a considerably larger test next Friday when they travel to perennial Texas power Aledo.
