2022 QB Drew Allar Enjoying Recruitment, Hopes to Hear More From Notre Dame

It's not a shock 2022 Media (Ohio) quarterback Drew Allar‍ has become a national name over the last two weeks on the recruiting trail. 

The 6-foot-5, 220-pounder threw for 2,962 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2020 while maintaining a 3.6 GPA. 

In the last 10 days, Allar has received offers from Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Penn State, Texas A&M and Washington, so it's safe to say life is good for the Ohio native. 

"It's been pretty crazy over the last week with all the offers that I've received," Allar told ISD. "I'm excited by each one and I'm looking forward to building on the relationships I've established. 

"Hopefully, when everything opens up, I'll be able to go to these different schools to take visits and interact with the coaching staff in-person." 

The Fighting Irish have been poking around as they requested offseason film from the ISD four-star. If Tommy Rees does offer Allar, it would be a significant one for the rising junior.

"It would definitely be a big offer," stated Allar. "It's Notre Dame. They're pretty selective with who they offer, especially at the quarterback position. It would be a big deal from an offer standpoint, but also exciting. 

"I'm still waiting to hear where it goes, but hopefully, we're staying in contact pretty soon."

Allar is aware Notre Dame doesn't offer a ton of quarterbacks, which can be a positive in his eyes, but he's also more focused on building strong relationships.

"It does mean something to a certain extent," Allar said of schools that offer fewer quarterbacks. "It all comes down to the relationship you have with the coaching staff. You could be one of 10 guys offered, but you could be towards the top of the board or at the bottom. I think it's all about relationships at this point and how you build them."

The good news for Notre Dame is Allar has already been on campus as he took a visit last winter before the pandemic hit. 

"I really enjoyed it and talking to all the different coaches," explained Allar. "I loved the campus and how it was its own little place. It was a super cool experience. That was my first time going to Notre Dame, so it was pretty different than the other colleges I've gone to games at and stuff like that." 

On the field, Allar's highlights are something else to watch as he's able to deliver the football in many different ways. Allar believes his various release points and off-platform throws are a strength of his game, but there's also another area he has matured in over the last year. 

"I think I can manipulate my throws with different arm angles and not be in the best position from a throwing standpoint, but still deliver it on time with great velocity," Allar stated. 

"Another strong part of my game is the mental part, the game inside of the game. I feel like this past season, I took a huge stride in the mental part of the game in progressions and actually learning how to break down a defense before the play with all the film I've studied with my high school coaches." 

And for the record, Allar did test his arm strength out in fall camp last summer. He doesn't know the exact distance, but it was between 65-70 yards.

Allar hopes to continue the run of offers as South Carolina and Texas have also been in contact along with the Irish. 

And a decision might not come in the near future as Allar wants to take his time. 

"Academics are important to me,” said Allar. “My main thing is finding the right fit for me. It's not about the name of the school, but about how I fit into the school with the coaching staff and my teammates. I'm just trying to find the perfect fit for me. 

"I'm taking it slow and trying to find the best fit for myself."
