Jaden Mickey‍ is obviously a talented football player, which is why the 2022 California cornerback has more than a dozen major scholarship offers.

But that’s not the first thing Corona Centennial High School head coach Matt Logan says when asked about him.

“First of all, he's a great student, a great kid,” says Logan. “He Is very talented. He works extremely hard to improve his skillset. He’s a kid who has grown a lot, physically grown a lot in the last year or two and it's been nice to see him develop.”

Logan says the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder is “super competitive” even in practice.

“He likes to let people hear about it,” the coach laughs. “It's good, it gets some juice in the practice.”

As for those physical gifts, two things stick out.

“First of all, he's just a very physical player,” says Logan. “Second of all, he's got great, great ball skills and ball instincts.”

Notre Dame extended an offer to Mickey earlier this month, joining a group of schools that already included USC, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, Michigan State and Nebraska among many others.

“I think it meant something to him,” says Logan. “I think anytime Notre Dame offers, it means a little something for sure.”

Logan spoke with Irish assistant coach Del Alexander prior to Notre Dame’s extension of the offer.

“Everything I told you is what I told him and they wanted to concur that,” says Logan. “They're in agreement obviously or they wouldn't have offered.”

Logan is advising his players to stay patient with the uncertainty of the recruiting process right now.

“This is all unchartered territory, so we just need to be patient and see how it unfolds,” he says. “It's totally out of their control.

“I always try to tell people, don't worry about things you can't control. Just do what you can control and that's just to keep developing as a player and working hard and being ready to go once when the time comes.”
