Notre Dame Named Regional Host for 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament
The NCAA Baseball Tournament is headed to South Bend for the first time since 2004.
Notre Dame (30-11, 25-10) and Frank Eck Stadium was selected as one of 16 regional hosts for the upcoming 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament.
It’s quite the accomplishment for second-year head coach Link Jarrett, who has taken the ACC by storm and he felt his Irish certainly deserved to host a regional.
"That's a reward,” Jarrett said on Friday afternoon. “You host something like this and everyone in the country knows how consistent and how well you've played. That's what I hope to hear.
"Beyond that, I don't know. I hope there are three teams we can find a way to beat. That's what I hope.
"Everybody that's in this thing has a distinct personality to their team and something that's allowed them to be a winning baseball team. Some of the conference tournaments require far more innings than it would take to win this. You're going to get some people that can play. They will all be different, but I feel like we've earned the right to have the regional at Notre Dame. They deserve it."
Jarrett’s club will find out who they will face on Monday afternoon at noon ET on ESPN2 as part of Selection Monday.
Baseball America projects a regional of Notre Dame, UConn, Indiana State and Central Michigan.
This will mark Notre Dame’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2015. Notre Dame last made it to the College World Series in 2002.
According to the University, information on purchasing tickets for the upcoming regional will be announced in the coming days.
