Gunnar Gottula‍ has already impressed a couple of college programs enough to earn scholarship offers and the 2023 Nebraska offensive lineman is hoping to cement himself on the radar of the Notre Dame coaching staff when he attends Irish Invasion on Sunday.

The 6-foot-6, 270-pounder received messages from Irish assistants Jeff Quinn and Tommy Rees inviting him to the showcase camp and didn’t waste much time taking them up.

“I really like their tradition and I've always been interested in the history they've had and all the great players and teams they've had,” Gottula says. “I've always kind of liked them.”

The Lincoln Southeast High School standout has early offers from Iowa State and Kansas State.

“It's nice to get those two offers because I really like both of those schools,” he says. “It was like a dream come true, being able to get offers and have the opportunity to play at the next level. It was exciting.”

He’s excited for the chance to show the Notre Dame staff the strides he’s made over the last several months.

“I'm hoping to show my athleticism and just technique and things that I've been working on and show that I've improved since my sophomore year film that they've seen,” he says.

He’s also interested in getting a peek at Notre Dame for himself.

“I know that they're really good in academics and that's important to me,” he says. “I'd like to see some of that and just kind of getting to know the coaches and see a good, exciting area, that's probably what I'm looking forward to.”

He has a few other trips planned for this month as well, including a stop at Iowa State for a camp on Wednesday.

“I'll be at Northwestern on June 24th for a camp/visit,” he adds. “And then I'll go to a visit thing on Nebraska on June 18th.”

Gottula has an early idea of what he’s looking for in a college.

“I'd say finding a program and team that I fit in with and really liking and having a good relationship with the coaches is important too. Obviously, somewhere with good academics where I can get that academics part done too.”
