Top 2023 OL Monroe Freeling Previews Notre Dame Visit

Jeff Quinn has done a fantastic job painting a picture of Notre Dame for Monroe Freeling‍.

Now, the elite 2023 offensive lineman from South Carolina will get the chance to see if Quinn’s picture lines up with reality.

Freeling will arrive in South Bend on Sunday night ready to get a tour of Notre Dame on Monday.

The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder from Oceanside Collegiate Academy has an impressive offer sheet that includes the Irish along with schools like Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon among several others.

The Irish certainly have Freeling’s attention.

“I've really been talking to them the most out of every school and the coach is making it sound like it's one of the best programs and it's a great place to be,” says Freeling. “I would love to go see it and I am now. I'm really excited.

“It's the first school I've visited since like January of 2020. It's just really exciting to finally get up to a school and especially Notre Dame because it's one I've been talking to for the longest time.”

Freeling wants to get the entire Notre Dame experience, or at least as much as possible.

“I've heard it's a great campus and a great environment,” he says. “Coach has been talking about how great of a campus it is and I just want to see if he really meant it.”

Quinn has made a strong impression of his own as well.

“I feel like he’s a great coach,” Freeling says of Quinn. “I've watched a couple practices. I saw that he's really trying to make his players better.

In addition to the stop in South Bend, Freeling has trips scheduled for Georgia and Clemson on the 10th and 11th of June, respectively.

With the year-plus long dead period finally being lifted this week, Freeling doesn’t feel he’s quite ready to start narrowing down his list, but he does know what he’s looking for.

“I've got three factors and not really in a particular order,” he says. “You've got to have a great football environment, just football overall. You've got to be able to compete against the best and get me to a place I really want to be one day.

“And then academics, obviously. I know that football isn't forever, so I want to secure myself a future when football is all said and done. The last one is just the whole environment of the school itself. I just want to have a great feel like I'm at home.”
