2023 OL Amir Herring Impressed with Jeff Quinn & Notre Dame
2023 West Bloomfield (Mich.) offensive lineman Amir Herring has had a busy summer and made his way down to South Bend last weekend for Irish Invasion.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder had heard a lot about the Irish program and came away impressed following his visit.
"It was a really good trip for me and my family," Herring told ISD. "We liked the experience Coach (Jeff) Quinn and the rest of the coaching staff did for us down there.
"It was a beautiful campus and it was just great to learn from Coach Quinn."
The chance to work with Quinn was something Herring wanted to do for quite some time and he wasn't disappointed.
Herring also appreciated the time Quinn and his staff took to teach the players at camp instead of just giving them reps.
"Coach Quinn is a firey coach," explained Herring. "He gets after it and that's what I like about him. We worked on the fundamentals of run blocking and reach blocking. That's a big thing at Notre Dame - making sure you have the right run-blocking stance.
"We also worked on pass blocking. That was really important for Coach Quinn to teach us how they pass block at Notre Dame.
"I enjoyed getting to learn from Coach Quinn. He's one of the best offensive line coaches in the college ranks. He's up there. He's been around the game a long time."
The Michigan native was fresh off visits to Clemson, Michigan and Ohio State, but Herring felt something special on the Notre Dame campus.
"Before the camp, I took a visit around campus," said Herring. "We got to go in the stadium and locker room.
"The atmosphere matches a lot of these schools. Notre Dame has a lot of championships, Heisman Trophy winners, wins and tradition. That's what makes Notre Dame a special place."
As far as an offer from Notre Dame, Herring is remaining patient following a good conversation with Quinn.
"Coach Quinn said he's going to keep building on our relationship," stated Herring. "Coach Quinn was at my high school with Coach Kelly a couple times to West Bloomfield. We're going to keep building a relationship and hopefully, I can get an offer in the near future."
Herring will now turn his attention to visits at Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State and Northwestern as he hopes to learn more about each school.
As far as a commitment, Herring is taking his time with the process and hopes to add a few more offers over the coming months.
"My timeline is probably going to be next summer to National Signing Day in December," said Herring. "That's probably going to be the range where I'll make my decision."
Offers: Arizona State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Miami (OH), Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue and Syracuse
