2023 LB Karmelo Overton Would Like To Check Out Notre Dame
Karmelo Overton has some Notre Dame coaches following his social media accounts and says the Irish staff members have been in contact with his coaches about him and now the 2023 Alabama linebacker is waiting to see what’s next.
“I know about their academics, a little bit, but I still have to do some more research,” the 6-foot-2, 215-pounder says.
He says he’d visit South Bend if given the chance.
“I want to get a chance to see the facilities and talk to the coaches and everything too,” he says.
The Carroll High School standout already has a half-dozen offers from Arizona, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas and Troy.
“It feels good,” he says of the early offers. “But I always tell people, I'm never satisfied. So yeah, I've got six offers going into my junior year, but I want more and I feel like I still have something to prove.”
Overton hit the road in June.
“I went to Georgia Tech, Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn,” he said, adding he was set to make a trip to LSU as well, but had to postpone that one because the Tigers’ linebacker coach wasn’t going to be in town at the time.
“They were good. It felt good to actually be on campuses and talk to coaches and meet everybody, the staff and everyone who's going to be around the players. It was a really good experience. I enjoyed it.”
College scouts have told Overton they’re impressed with his athleticism.
“They like how I use my body and how I can cover grass,” he says.
But he wants to use the upcoming season to answer any questions about his ability to be a physical force on the field.
“I want a lot more big hits this year,” he says. “My goals this year are to keep my double-digit tackle average, get more tackles for loss and get more big hits, make a lot more plays.
“Last year was a good season, but I want to have a great season this year.”
Overton plans to examine schools’ track records on the field and with developing linebackers as he sorts through his ultimate options along with the relationships between the players and coaches within the programs.
