Jack Larsen‍ had a chance to check out Notre Dame on Tuesday and the 2024 North Carolina tight end left impressed.

“I loved it,” the 6-foot-3, 220-pounder said afterward. “It was awesome. We got up there Monday and I toured around a little bit.

“Then, I worked out (Wednesday) morning in the indoor facility and just toured around more after that. I loved it. The campus and the people were awesome.”

The Charlotte Catholic High School star had the chance to catch passes from 2023 Kansas quarterback Avery Johnson during the workout while going through some blocking techniques with Irish tight ends coach John McNulty.

The Charlotte native enjoyed working with McNulty and getting to know him.

“He has a lot of NFL experience, so he knows what he's talking about,” Larsen said. “I thought what he was telling me was awesome.

“He was joking around a little bit and was serious and just talking to me about what to expect if I went there. He was great.”

Larsen was also impressed with the other members of the staff he spent time with.

“The offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach, Coach (Tommy) Rees was awesome,” he said. “I was talking to him for a while. I got a chance to meet with Coach (Brian) Kelly. He was great.

“He said a lot of people were coming in his office telling him that I did well in the workout and he wanted to start recruiting me. He was saying he was looking forward to maintaining a relationship over the next couple years.”

Larsen, who picked up offers from North Carolina, North Carolina State and South Carolina last month, was honored to hear that from Kelly.

“It's amazing,” he said. “I feel like I grew up watching him coach and for him to say that to me in person was pretty special.”

Larsen comes from the same high school as former Irish offensive lineman Mark Harrell, who is currently on staff at Charlotte Catholic.

“He just tells me that it's a great environment, kind of wraps the Catholic culture into the school,” Larsen said of Harrell.

Larsen will head to South Carolina this weekend and “definitely” plans on staying in touch with the Irish.

“I'm going to try to make it up for a game. We'll see what week works, but I'm trying to make it up there for one of their games this coming season for sure.”
