By the time Tobias Merriweather‍ finished his official visit to South Bend back in June, the 2022 Washington wide receiver was thinking Notre Dame could be the place for him.

By the time he was done with his official to Stanford a couple weeks later, he knew it was.

Merriweather made the decision known publicly on Tuesday during an interview with CBS Sports HQ.

“I would like to announce that I’ll be taking my talents to the University of Notre Dame,” the Union High School standout said during the interview.

The June official visit was key.

“When I was there, it was a great experience,” he said. “I’d been there before when I was a freshman, so I had already seen the campus and met some of the coaches. But me being there again, they treated almost like a celebrity, which was kind of fun.

“But at the end of the day, they just told me straight how it would be if I came and really got to know me and I got to know some of the guys the guys there. After that, we went to visit another school, but it just didn’t feel the same…I just knew it was the right choice for me.”

The other school Merriweather visited this summer was Stanford.

The Irish coaches were crucial, but so were the academic opportunities for Merriweather, who plans to major in Psychology.

“The biggest decision for me was just the coaching staff there and how we connected and clicked,” he said. “We’re all on the same page. Also, what they offer for me on the field and off the field. It’s a great school for football and it’s a great school for academics. I think it’ll really be good for me the next four years and the next 40 years after that.”
