Notre Dame Stays After Pair Of 2023 Texas DBs
Notre Dame reached out to dozens of its top 2023 recruits last week as college coaches can start directly contacting prospects on Sept. 1st of their junior years.
The Irish contacted a pair of 2023 targets from South Oak Cliff High School in Dallas.
Notre Dame had already offered Jayvon Thomas and Malik Muhammad, both top cornerback prospects. But the Irish wanted to take the opportunity to express how sincere their interest is.
“Just that they're interested in them and were thinking about them,” South Oak Cliff assistant Kyle Ward told Irish Sports Daily.
“They expressed that they want both guys in their 2023 class.”
Muhammad, who played at IMG Academy last season before moving back to Texas, visited South Bend this summer and is already eyeing a return trip in October.
Thomas, whose father Joe played linebacker for the Irish, wanted to get there in the summer, but wasn’t able to. Ward isn’t sure if Thomas will be able to make it this Fall either.
“It's hard for a lot of those guys to go farther in-season,” Ward said.
Either way, both Muhammad and Thomas’ interest in Notre Dame should be considered very serious.
“I think just the rich tradition,” Ward said.
“First and foremost, the coaches reaching out and offering them scholarships and expanding contact, making sure that those guys know that they're wanted. I think that's a big deal to them and that's a big-time program.”
