Kai Black‍ was quite impressed with his first trip to South Bend for Notre Dame’s game against Purdue on Saturday.

“It was great,” the 2023 Iowa receiver/tight end said afterward. “I got a tour of the facilities, got to see the field, got to do a little photoshoot, trying on all the gear, what they wear in the game, things like that. I also got to see where the players lift and hang out and things like that.

“It was amazing, very high class. You can tell there's a lot of funding that goes into this program.”

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder, who has offers from schools like Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin and Kansas among others, had the chance to speak with Irish receivers coach Del Alexander and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

“It was a pretty quick interaction on both ends, but they did say that they liked the film that they saw of me and just to keep going,” said Black.

“Just because I heard from the wide receiver coach today and I didn't hear anything for the tight end coach, it looks like they see me as a receiver.”

The Urbandale High School standout is planning to check out a game at Michigan State next weekend and will be at Nebraska the week after that.

But he’s definitely going to keep his eyes on the Irish.

“Considering they haven't offered yet, I'd like to continue to pursue them,” he said.

“I think they're a great school and a great program for football. It was definitely somewhere I see myself fitting in, so I'd definitely like to keep pursuing them as a school.”
