Top 2023 DL Luke Montgomery Impressed with Notre Dame Once Again
2023 Findlay (Ohio) defensive lineman Luke Montgomery made his second trip to Notre Dame this month on Saturday as he and his family saw the Irish roll USC.
"It was awesome," Montgomery told ISD. "The night game experience was pretty cool and it was electric all around. It was a great win."
The night game provided Notre Dame to create an environment and the 6-foot-5, 265-pounder was impressed with the bells and whistles inside the stadium.
"It was pretty cool," stated Montgomery. "I've never part of something like that. Being in the dark and then all the lights made the crowd electric."
While the light show was impressive, Montgomery made the trip to South Bend to help him figure out where he wants to play college football.
Notre Dame rolled out the red carpet on Saturday and Sunday morning as he had meetings with multiple members of the coaching staff.
"I talked to Coach (Marcus) Freeman, Coach (Brian) Kelly, Coach (Mike) Elston and Chad (Bowden) a bunch," said Montgomery.
"It was a similar message (to his last visit). We spent time with them today talking about film and where I'd fit in."
On film, Notre Dame was able to dive deep into why Montgomery could be a premier defensive lineman as he got to see one of the top 3-tech tandems in the country.
"Jayson Ademilola and Rylie Mills were the two guys I watched last night and watched them on film today," explained Montgomery. "They did a great job making the quarterback step up in the pocket. They had to change up the defense for what USC's offense ran and they did a great job."
The four-star prospect is one of the most popular kids in the 2023 class and Saturday was also a chance to catch up with several friends.
"I talked to Drayk (Bowen) and Brenan (Vernon) a lot - Kadyn Proctor, Aamil Wagner, Joshua Padilla and Xavier Nwankpa," Montgomery said. "There were so many people there."
And yes, Vernon, also an Ohio native, made his case for Montgomery to choose Notre Dame.
"We were able to catch up, but he was working me hard for sure," laughed Montgomery.
Montgomery also shared a special moment with his family on the visit as his younger brother, Ryan, received an offer from Notre Dame before the game.
"It was pretty crazy," said Montgomery. "Notre Dame doesn't really offer any youngers from what I've seen, especially that are freshmen. That was pretty dang cool for him."
