Two Notre Dame Staffers Expected Headed to LSU to Join Brian Kelly

This is a big week for Brian Kelly as the new LSU head coach will need to hit the recruiting trail, but also start to fill out his staff.

ISD has learned Notre Dame as Director of Football Strength and Conditioning Jake Flint and Director of Sports Nutrition Matt Frakes are expected to head to Baton Rouge to join Kelly. 

Flint has been at Notre Dame since 2010 and was a member of Kelly’s strength and conditioning staff at Cincinnati from 2007-2009. He also played for Kelly at Central Michigan as a walk-on, but he did earn a scholarship in his final season. 

Frakes is a newer name to the Notre Dame world, but many consider him one of the hottest names in colleges sports nutrition. He arrived at Notre Dame in May of 2021 from Louisville’s basketball program. 

The Ohio native primary responsibility was the nutrition of Notre Dame’s football program, but he also oversaw the other 25 athletic programs on campus. 

Frakes finished his PhD in nutrition and hospitality management from Ole Miss in 2020 and also spent a year as the associate director of athletic performance for sports nutrition education at Louisiana. 

According to his bio on, Frakes started his career athletic nutrition career in 2017 at Ole Miss as the assistant sports dietitian and graduate instructor.
