It’s been an offseason of new experiences for 2024 Texas running back Kewan Lacy‍. The 6-foot, 190-pounder transferred from Nolan Catholic to Lancaster, which means learning a new offense.

"I'm just trying to adjust to the new school and playbook,” Lacy told ISD. “I'm going to play in the slot and running back, so I'm trying to improve my route running for next season."

Lacey takes pride in being able to run the ball downhill and wants to showcase his ability to also work from the slot.

"The college coaches I talk to are recruiting me at running back, but after next year, it should be both,” explained Lacy.

The Texas native holds early offers from Indiana and UTSA, which only serves as motivation to earn more.

"It's motivation to keep going,” said Lacy. “It's good to know I'm getting noticed. I've been talking to the running backs coach at Notre Dame. He coached at Indiana before Notre Dame and he was the reason I got my first offer.”

McCollough has built a solid rapport with Lacy as he was the first coach to notice the talented Lancaster star and made sure to reach out following the transfer.

"When he found out I transferred, Coach McCullough knew my coach and called, so we got on the phone,” stated Lacy. “Ever since then, we stayed in contact."

"I like that he's genuine. He actually gets to know me. He wants to come down here and get to know my family."

When it comes to recruiting, Lacey recently took visits to Texas A&M and UTSA.

"I went to UTSA last Saturday and that was fun and they offered me,” Lacy said. “I went to Texas A&M and that was good. I like A&M a lot. I got to sit down with the running back coach and watch a practice.

"I saw one of my old friends, Evan Stewart, and he was doing good. He's a freshman and I feel like if I work hard, then I can be where he is."

Lacy isn’t in a rush to make a decision and he’s focused on using his visits to find out what he’s looking for in a future college.

"I'm just looking to visit schools and meet the coaches,” said Lacy. “ I don't want to pick a college on if I like it or not. I want to find the right fit."
