BREAKING | Notre Dame Lands Grad Transfer DL Chris Smith
Notre Dame needed to add depth to the interior of the defensive line and the Irish have done just that as Harvard graduate transfer Chris Smith has committed to the Fighting Irish.
The 6-foot-2, 293-pounder had committed to Minnesota in January, but Notre Dame hosted him last weekend for a visit and Smith decided to change his plans.
Smith recorded 40 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, three quarterback hurries and two forced fumbles in 2021. For his efforts, Smith was named First Team All-Ivy League.
For his career with the Crimson, Smith tallied 72 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, five quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles, and one fumble in three years.
The Detroit native is a significant addition to the defensive line room as Aidan Keanaaina tore his ACL earlier this spring. Smith will be able to compete with Gabe Rubio and Jason Onye, but also gives Al Washington an experienced body inside.
In high school, Smith was a four-year letterman at Cranbrook Kingswood and a three-year letterwinner in basketball. Smith majored in Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard.
