Ronan Hanafin‍ is going to run out of major scholarship offers to land at some point, but the 2023 Massachusetts athlete isn’t there quite yet.

On Wednesday, Hanafin added LSU to a list that already included schools like Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, USC, Oklahoma and several others.

LSU assistant coach Brian Polian made his way to Buckingham Browne & Nichols School last week and the offer followed.

“It was really cool,” the 6-foot-3, 206-pounder said.

Hanafin’s Notre Dame offer came last fall, when Polian and LSU head coach Brian Kelly were still with the Irish.

“I think they just wanted to see me because none of their staff really got to see me in person, so I think that was a big part,” Hanafin said of the timing of the LSU offer.

“But once I checked that box, I think it all worked out.”

Hanafin had the chance to speak with Kelly when he visited Notre Dame for a game last fall.

“He was obviously a great guy,” said Hanafin. “He came from Mass, so we have that connection there. I really liked him when I talked with him.”

“Getting down for a visit would be great,” he said. “I hear from a lot of recruits that it’s a great campus. Obviously, LSU has an incredible fan base.

“So many people I’ve talked to said the game day feel is the best. Coach Polian and Coach Kelly also made a great impression so I’m really excited about it.”

Hanafin already has visits scheduled to Clemson, Notre Dame, Alabama, Nebraska and Boston College next month and a couple other stops also.

“I'm not sure if it will be official or unofficial right now, but I'd like to get to Baton Rouge,” he said. “I'm not sure exactly when, but hopefully early summer.”

Hanafin doesn’t want to wait too long to come to a decision, but he wants to make sure he’s thoughtful about it and finds the right fit.
